More Favorite Scenes

The following is from book 4, “The Unexpected”. It is one of my favorite scenes and I hope you liked it as well!

Stephanie looked at Jack and then at Julie. “So Julie, we have something we need help with.”

Julie looked at her. “Of course, what do you need?”

Stephanie glanced at Brittany who grinned. “It isn’t something we need so much as an explanation.”

Confused, Julie looked at Bill and then at the women. “Okay, what is it?”

Stephanie smiled. “We need you to tell us what “the incident” was.”

Jack turned white and Tommy smirked. Julie looked at them. “Seriously? You brought up the incident? You said we would never talk about it again. I still have nightmares.”

The women were more intrigued and Bill jumped in. “What is this “incident” you speak of?”

The three oldest friends sighed and Julie shook her head. “When I was 14 years old, I decided that staying with my friends over spring break was silly. I could easily take care of myself, and since my dad’s were in their final year of pre-med, they were busy and would be spending hours at the library. I would be able to have much of the house to myself and it was going to be a week to remember.”

“I hate when you call us your dad’s,” Tommy said.

Brittany grinned at him. “I think it’s cute.”

He sighed and sat down while Julie continued. “So anyway, I came home with every intention of just going to my room and crashing for a bit before I enjoyed my evening alone and figured out what I was going to do with my week off. So I went to my room and fell asleep. It was then that the incident began.” She looked at Jack.

“Oh for goodness sake, it wasn’t that traumatic. Besides, you didn’t tell us you were coming home, so the fault is yours.” Jack sighed.

Tommy grinned. “I’ll never forget that night when I was observing my first surgical case. I was called out to tend to an emergency at home.”

Brittany, Stephanie and Bill looked at each other and then at Julie. “What the hell happened?” Bill asked.

Jack rolled his eyes. “My last class was cancelled, so I decided to go home and entertain a friend.”

“A friend?” Stephanie asked with a grin. “I girl friend?”

He shook his head. “This is ridiculous, yes, a girl. She was supposed to come over and we were going to go over some anatomy lessons. I went into my room and got ready.”

“Oh no,” Stephanie said. She could see where this was going. “You didn’t.”

He sighed. “I heard someone in the apartment and I had left the door open, telling her she could come in. I changed into my birthday suit and decided to go surprise her.”

Brittany grinned. “Oh no, did you walk out and see Julie?”

Julie shook her head. “No, that wouldn’t have been so bad. What happened was so much worse.”

“Seriously? It was years ago,” Jack said.

“So what happened?” Bill asked, the three newer family members clearly enjoying the story.

“I walked out and my friend was there. She was waiting for me in her birthday suit as well and we began our ‘lesson”,” he blushed at Stephanie’s grin.

“I woke up and wasn’t feeling well. I heard someone in the apartment and was relieved because I didn’t want to be alone. I assumed because it was the end of the semester, Tommy or Jack had come home early. I heard something that sounded like knocking and I walked out of my room and smacked into the incident.” She covered her face.

“Oh no. What did you do?” Stephanie laughed.

“She screamed and I freaked out. The girl I was with slapped me for having sex in a house with a teenager so close by. She pushed me over and grabbed her things and left and as I scrambled to cover myself up somehow,” he looked at Julie.

“I puked all over him and ran out of the house.” She said.

They all looked at each other and burst out laughing. “Oh no, how horrible,” Brittany said.

“That’s when I got the most disturbing phone call.” Tommy said. “Jack called me and all I could get out of him was Julie saw him naked, threw up and ran away.”

Julie shook her head. “I didn’t know what to do. I was so embarrassed and I felt so badly for having ruined his evening, but I couldn’t look at him.”

“You didn’t ruin my evening. I don’t even remember her name,” he said and then realized how that sounded. “Well it’s not like we all don’t know I used to be a pig.”

Stephanie tucked his hair behind his ears. “You weren’t a pig, you were experimenting with girls until you found your woman.”

He kissed her. “I like that.”

“Anyway, I hitchhiked to the hospital and waited for Tommy.” Julie said softly.

“You hitchhiked? At 14?” Bill asked incredulously.

“Well I would have stolen Jack’s car, but I didn’t have the keys and there was no way I was going back into the house.”

“You would have stolen the car?” Brittany asked.

“Julie looks all innocent, but she had her moments.” Tommy said as he crossed his arms.

“I went through some growing pains.” She said and Jack rolled his eyes.

“So, to make a very long story short, I found her waiting for me we agreed never to mention it again.” Tommy said.

“That’s it? You didn’t sit down and have a discussion with her? You didn’t take her to therapy?” Bill asked, trying not to laugh.

“She didn’t need therapy. It’s not like I’m repulsive to look at.” Jack said.

Julie laughed. “Once the shock wore off, I was able to be in the same room with both of them and life went on.”

Jack groaned. “That wasn’t all.”

Tommy smiled. “We had a lot to explain to social services.”

“What do you mean?” Brittany asked.

“Well in order for me to have guardianship of Julie, we had to have yearly visits with social services for the first few years. This particular visit was a drop in visit unannounced.” Jack said. “Apparently Julie wasn’t the only one who decided to surprise us that afternoon.”

“No way; she came over?” Bill asked.

“I was running after Julie, half naked and puked on and when I opened the door, the woman was standing there.” Jack said.

Stephanie burst out laughing. “Oh no, you poor thing.”

He nodded. “It took many explanations and numerous visits to get over the incident. Now you know why we don’t speak of it.”

They all laughed and Bill looked at them. “Well, it’s good to know that Julie wasn’t scarred by that. There doesn’t seem to be any residual fear of being intimate.”

She leaned over and kissed him deeply.

Tommy and Jack groaned. “Alright, enough. This is now put to bed.” Jack said.

They all laughed at his choice of words and finally began to talk about something else.
