In honor of “Meant To Be” releasing today, I though I would do an interview with the three leading men of the book. We haven’t really had a chance to chat with them since the series continued, so here we go!
Sitting in a coffee house, Robbie, David and Jimmy each nurse their drinks. David is dressed in a white t-shirt and jeans, his blonde hair perfectly styled and his blue eyes bright and alert. He is by far the most ‘awake’ of the three.
Robbie is to his right, wearing a button down shirt and dress pants. His dark hair is not quite as styled as David’s, but it fits his personality. He is sporting a neatly trimmed beard and his smile betrays his tired eyes.
Jimmy is sitting to David’s left. He looks like he would rather be almost anywhere else, but it’s not necessarily true. His appearance always seems to reflect a fight or flight response. He is wearing a long sleeve t-shirt and jeans and he hasn’t shaved in a few days, but his beard isn’t as trimmed as Robbie. His eyes give nothing away.
Interviewer: Thank you all for meeting with me. I know it’s probably not your first choice of business.
They all politely smile.
Interviewer: Let me start with a few easy questions. What did you all have for breakfast?
David: Nothing.
Robbie: Eggs.
Jimmy: This.
Interviewer: Okay then. Let me ask you guys this. If you could know more about any one thing, what would it be? Let’s start with Robbie.
Robbie: Um, cooking maybe? I mean, I can’t cook, and Tess needs a pretty strict diet, so I’d like to be able to make her more food. Or any food I guess. I don’t know.
David: Teenagers. Every day I teach, I find more I don’t know. There has to be some sort of manual. I wasn’t such an ass, was I?
Jimmy laughed.
David blushed.
What about you, Jimmy? What would you like to know more about?
Jimmy: Genetics.
They all looked at him and he didn’t say anything else.
Interviewer: Okay, next question. What’s your favorite sport?
David: Hockey
Jimmy: Pass
Robbie: Chess
David and Jimmy: Chess isn’t a sport.
Robbie: Sure it is. It’s competitive and takes skill. Just because it’s not as physical as others doesn’t mean anything.
David and Jimmy shook their heads.
Interviewer: Okay, let’s move on. If you had to give a TED talk tomorrow, what would it be on?
Robbie: Um, how to get into med school while dodging seizures?
Jimmy chuckled and David laughed.
Robbie: What? It’s what I know.
David smiled again.
Jimmy: How to mess up your life over and over again.
Robbie rolled his eyes.
David: Sounds riveting.
Jimmy shrugged.
David: How to land the girl of your dreams.
Both boys smacked him.
David: Ow. Don’t be jealous.
They all laughed.
Interviewer: What’s the best bad decision you’ve ever made?
Jimmy: Getting up on that ledge. It brought me to Sabrina.
David: Kicking a ale of hay around. It introduced me to Desi.
Robbie: Going against my dad and applying for med school.
Interviewer: Do you have any special memories of your first love?
David: I’m not answering that one.
Jimmy: Me neither.
Robbie: She’s still with me and every day is amazing.
David: Seriously?
Jimmy: Way to leave us hanging.
Robbie: I can’t help it. Tessa has been my only love.
Interviewer: Okay, last one. What is the most important thing you learned from your parents:
David: Family is forever. No matter what happens, you call and they are there. always.
Robbie: Well, I grew up with a single mom, so I guess I learned that no matter what we had, being there was most important. She never missed anything I did and I know how hard it must have been for her. I guess I learned to appreciate the small gestures.
Jimmy: How not to be a parent.
Interviewer: Thank you all so much. I really appreciate your honesty.
